SIMS 3 WORLD ADVENTURES - CLOSED EVENT

Hi, everybody! We can finally tell you everything we got from the closed event at EA Games Brazil’s offices, at São Paulo. There, we were able to play more than six hours of the Sims 3 first expansion pack: The Sims 3 World Adventures.
Firstly, we would like to say thanks to everybody from EA Games Brazil for inviting us to go there and play way before the rest of the world. We are really grateful for that.
At this expansion pack, our Sims will be able to go out for a trip to three new destinations: China, Egypt and France. In each place, there are unique characteristics. We have the Egypt with its old relics; China with its unique and millenarian architecture; and France with its bucolic looks.
To start playing the Sims 3 World Adventures, you will need to choose a family, of course. Then you will have to click on your mobile phone and on “Travel” and you will need a visa. At the first moment, your visa ir for a three-days-long trip only. But, as long as you go traveling (and solving puzzles) more and more, your visa increases.
Still at the phone, you can choose which Sims will go on vacation with you, and which of them will stay (you can take them all with you if you want it). The “timing” system is the same as the expansions “Vacation” and “Bon Voyage”: the day, clock and hours, inside the house, do not “move”.
After choosing the Sims, the place of destiny, and paying for the trip, a taxi will stop by your place to get your Sims and them they will go to the chosen destiny. At this moment, a loading screen shows up (the only one actually).
At the new destiny, you will find a “basis”, a place where you can stay while you are there. In front of the basis, there is a panel with a few adventures suggestions that you can accomplish (but you can also be asked to do other adventures by other Sims). The adventures are not that difficult. They are actually simple puzzles where you will usually need to push/pull statues to a determined place, look at the walls to see if you can find any hidden/secret doors, dive into wells… Apparently, you will need only attention to solve the puzzles.
The Sims will walk around on foot or with a scooter. At China, the scooter is replaced by a bicycle.
An interesting thing is that you will be able to dig or clean a few little sand or rock heaps to find new relics or objects. You can find stuff like dried meat (ideal to eat while you are on a mission).
- France –
Our first destiny was France, obviously because of the lack of information we had about it before.
The game’s France isn’t exactly “Paris”. It looks like a more distant place, it reminded us the very transition from countryside to the city. We loved the music from Champs Les Sims, it is really beautiful. And it also reminded us the Makin’ Magic songs. There’s possible to visit museums, make some nectar (that are actually wine bottles), and visit a few tombs.
A very interesting thing in the game is that it is possible to buy special items during the trip according to your visa and quantity of old golden coins (the golden and old coins are found inside the tombs and missions). We copied the items name, visa and coins needed, but that was in portuguese, so we don’t really know it the items names are translated exactly the same, but there they are:
| Visa/Coins | Item’s Name |
1/20 |
“Averna Lino” grapes |
1/40 |
Net courage potion |
1/10 |
Dried meat |
2/25 |
Meloire grapes |
2/75 |
Escape’s dust |
2/400 |
Master key stone |
3/400 |
Gralladina Fran grapes |
3/1000 |
Partnership certificate with France |
Each item is essential for determined mission. The dried meat is excellent for hungry Sims; Your Sims can sleep inside the tombs if they have a tent there (it is possible to find tents looking for hidden/secret doors).
Unfortunately we didn’t test the French photography ability since we were totally excited to play the other destinies.
- China –
The game’s China is the game’s most beautiful destiny. There are lots of trees, elegant clothes, and a breathtaking architecture. Shang Simla is a very exotic destiny that shows us and old China. There, it is possible to learn martial arts and how to make fireworks.
The tombs are incredible (the high Dragon Cave is gorgeous), and you can easily spend a few extra minutes there. The music is extremely nice also. Shang Simla is and old village hidden between the mountains.
We could easily say that the best thing in this destiny is the landscape (and the tombs). The Terracotta warriors are extremely very well done.
The adventures here are not that difficult too, they are mostly puzzle also.
Yet again, it is possible to buy special items to help your Sims in their adventures:
| Visa/Coins | Item’s Name |
1/40 |
Net courage potion |
1/100 |
Understanding sand |
1/10 |
Dried meat |
2/75 |
Escape’s dust |
2/400 |
Master key stone |
2/750 |
Thief’s coin |
3/2500 |
Sultan’s tabernacle |
3/1350 |
Partnership certificate with China |
- Egypt –
The game’s Egypt is the game’s better structured destiny. It is not as beautiful as China, but is the most complete destiny. It’s all yellowish in Egypt, but it is really pretty, and we have “real” buildings in there: like the Sphinx and the pyramids. In Al Simhara, our trip starts over a camping. To start the adventure, it is exactly like in the other destinies: you can click over the adventure’s panel to choose one.
Still in Al Simhara, you can choose from exploring the tombs by yourself clicking over the pyramids or walking around. The city’s music is great also. EA did a great job with the game’s soundtrack.
The most amusing thing about the tombs is to find the mummy! The first mummy that showed up was a little bit chubby one. We decided to fight with it and, incredibly, we lost and then we got cursed. Apparently, Sims can die, since all their needs go down quickly. Unfortunately, we didn’t wait till the damn’s term end. We still had lots of things do explore.
Yet again, it is possible to buy special items to help your Sims in their adventures:

1/10 |
